Homelessness Partnering Strategy
United Way Durham Region is pleased to continue its role as Community Entity for the federal government’s Homelessness Partnering Strategy (HPS) funding initiative. HPS is a community-based program, to stabilize the lives of homeless individuals by providing direct support and funding to communities across Canada.
Over the next five years, the United Way Durham Region, in partnership with the Durham HPS Community Advisory Board, will oversee the allocation of more than $1,300,000 in funding.
As of April 1st, 2014, the implementation of Housing First, the cornerstone of the government’s renewed Homelessness Partnering Strategy, will involve moving individuals who are chronically or episodically homeless from the streets or homeless shelters directly into permanent housing. Permanent housing is complemented by the provision of services to assist clients to sustain their housing and work towards recovery and reintegration into the community.
